Sexual violence concepts launched online are spilling into the real world – harming women and young men and overwhelming counselors

So if you want to feel pissed off, scared or hopeless you could read this! In all seriousness, the trajectory we’re moving in (especially after the MeToo movement) feels backwards sometimes with social media and the anonymity of “manosphere”. This article dives into the dangers, but also the root of the issue – vulnerable teenage boys having unprecedented Internet access and obviously really impressionable minds. Monitoring social media use and teaching young boys how to behave can hopefully stop some of them from growing up and going from a keyboard idiot to an actual threat

The Ivies can weather the Trump Administration research cuts – it’s the nations public universities that have the most to lose

As someone who will be pursuing a career heavily related to research and going through the PhD application process myself this past year – this is an important topic of discussion among public research universities. The federal funding/contributions for these projects cannot be overstated – without it, crucial breakthroughs and pursuit of higher education in students will be at major risk. Research in any department is the foundation of medicine, modern technology, public policy and so much more. Funding not only the project but the STUDENTS involved is an investment worth making at any level of University (not just the Ivies!).

The false and the furious
By Andras Molnar & George Loewenstein

Discusses how a lack of a universal truth is dividing. The authors, both professors of Psychology and behavioral scientists dissect the increasing political frustration between both parties. If we can never agree on a foundational truth, there is no room for an open, solely opinion based, dialogue. Without it, democracy, personal relationships, basic discussion are all at risk

The moral paradox of extreme wealth
By Jen Cole Wright

Enjoyed how it portrays both sides of the argument – discussing the right to financial autonomy & your personal “right” to grow your wealth in contrast with the then moral dilemma of how this inherently increases the significant wealth gap. Not only does this gap appear simply quantitatively unjust (no person needs this much money & over 10% of the U.S. is living in poverty), but it is also dangerous for the small minority to have this much power and influence….

AI Restores Voices Through Microscopic Neck Movements
By Yung-Eui Kang

Summary (written by site): “Imagine speaking in total silence and having a machine recreate your exact voice in real-time. Researchers have developed a wearable ‘Multiaxial Strain Mapping sensor’ that reads microscopic movements in the neck muscles and skin to reconstruct speech. This AI-powered technology can “hear” words without a single vibration of the vocal cords, offering a lifeline to those who have lost their voices to disease or surgery.” I have no words for how insanely cool this is – this is exactly what Artificial Intelligence should be used for
